All modelling projects starting with an idea. And a lot of excellent dioramas showing armored vehicles, figures and/or ships and aircraft as its best. Why not to combine some of these themes? It seems to be worth a trial and so I have combined a ground vehicle, an aircraft and some figures in hopefully a dynamic scene.
The Dodge WC-63 1.5to Truck is from Academy range (#35S18) and of remarkably high quality so I’ve built this nearly OOTB - some minor improvements only. The central object of this diorama is truly the Messerschmitt BF-109 G-10 fighter plane. For me aircrafts are a distinctive element of a scene. They representing dynamic and power. I’ve choosen the G-10 version with the powerfull new Daimler Benz DB 605 D engine because it was one of the last version built in large numbers. It’s the Hazegawa Kit and it’s 1/32 scale but this should be a minor difference only. My research concerning german fighter groups of late WW2 at the western front guided me to Jagdgeschwader (Fighter Squadron) JG 53 “Pik-As”.
The Figures are made - except for the heads (Hornet) and hands (spare box) - sculpted myself using the skeleton method and Apoxy Putty. Painted with oils (faces) and acrylics.
For the base I have glued some styropur onto a base of 30x30cm. I’ve cut the landscape it into shape and covered it with plaster. Several mixtures of white glue, real earth, fine sand, teac coffee grounds and some wet cardbords I have used to make the landscape downwards the hill. Some static grass and some higher grass made of hemp were added after the traces of the belly landed aircraft were worked in.
The tree is a wooden round stick with some holes drilled in. Into this holes small branches of a cypress were glued in, colored with differend greenish shades after. A 90 minutes work only. Some more details here and some debris and roots there, some different colors and some washings were added and that’s it. Finally all components were positioned so the desired situation or the little story is transported to the viewer.

Well - for me this diorama was an experiment in combining different aspects of scale modelling. Have tried to show a hopefully interesting scene which may have happened that time somewhere at western front - although it is pure fiction. I had a lot of fun making this diorama and this is what our great hobby is about. Hope you had fun watching this - Happy modelling.
